MIAMI – Attention, drivers! There are now modern speed measuring systems designed to catch speeders next to school buses and in school zones.

Drivers who go 10 miles or more too fast will face a $100 fine. The South Miami Police Department said there will be no points on your license or an increase in your insurance amount. However, if you are pulled over for speeding in a school zone, you could face a $319 fine.

The advanced speed detection cameras were installed at five South Miami schools that are considered high-risk: Ludlam Elementary School, Somerset Academy, South Miami K-8, South Miami Middle School and Epiphany Catholic.

For the first month, only warnings will be issued in South Miami and some of the radars will be powered by generators due to technical issues. Police say all the devices will be fully operational by September.

Miami-Dade Police told CBS News Miami that the rollout of speed cameras across the county has been delayed due to technical issues. It is currently unclear when all cameras in the county will be operational.

Across the district, school buses are now equipped with cameras to catch drivers who fail to stop when the flashing red stop arm is extended. If you’re caught breaking the rules, you’ll receive a $200 fine in the mail.

On the first day, Superintendent Jose Dotres visited schools across the county and said the first day went smoothly. Parents agree.

“Very smooth, traffic was light, but it’s still early. We’ll see what happens next week,” said Teri Benton, mother of Arcola Lakes.

Basically, students are saying they are ready for the coming year.

“This year I really want to work on my grades and get straight A’s all year long,” said Yaritza Peña, a seventh-grader at Hialeah Middle School.

“Summer vacation was a lot of fun, but I have two of my best friends here, so I guess I’m 50/50,” said Isabella Rodriguez, a sixth-grader at Hialeah Middle School.
