After spending some time at New York Fashion Week, Camila Cabello took a quick trip out of town to attend the MTV VMAs ceremony in Elmont, New York on Wednesday. The star channeled her inner goth bride, wearing a sheer black lace Tony Ward Couture gown with a matching veil on the red carpet. To complete the look, she let her platinum blonde hair down and went back to her signature dark brown locks. She also accessorized with a few cross necklaces to match the dress.

Cabello is performing tonight in a lineup that also includes her ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes and his ex Sabrina Carpenter. The trio’s presence may or may not cause some tension during the show. For her part, Cabello recently released “Can Friends Kiss?”, which some fans took as her perspective on the alleged love triangle between them in the past. Carpenter dated Barry Keoghan, while Cabello and Mendes are both single after a brief reconciliation last year.

Cabello is also nominated for two VMAs: Best Pop Artist and Best Trending Video (“I LUV IT” feat. Playboi Carti).

In June, Cabello spoke with fashion about her new album, XOXO. “It’s kind of a heightened version of me,” she admitted. “When I go into a meeting or before I do a show, my dancers and I listen to really hip music, rap music – anything that makes us feel cocky and confident. I’ve always listened to other artists to get that feeling. And it’s really cool that I’ve been able to get to a point where I feel like I can authentically create it within myself without it feeling forced.”

She added that she avoided using love as a major inspiration for the album, saying, “I wanted to challenge myself to write songs that weren’t about romantic interests – that were about a place, about my friends, or about a night out on the town.”
