The good, the very good and the absolutely ugly – Trevor Daley puts on a show at the most eagerly awaited round of the Canadian Superbike

In Trevor’s only other appearance in the Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship this season, in June at the Grand Bend Motorplex, he won both Pro Sport Bike and Superbike races on an unforgettable Sunday. Armed with solid data and under the guidance of tuner Jon Cornwell and Australian electronics engineer Jake Skate, Trevor believed he had taken a step toward being even more competitive in his next scheduled appearance, last weekend’s races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Trevor’s weekend at CTMP started well, with a pole position (his first!) in the sportbike and a front row start in the superbike. But in the sportbike race on Saturday, the track split between Trevor and his GSX-R750, resulting in a DNF. Later that afternoon, with a left hand that looked like a balloon about to pop, Trevor battled through the superbike race to finish in ninth place. Unfortunately, the magic of Grand Bend seemed unlikely to repeat itself – or so it seemed.

On Sunday morning, Trevor wedged his swollen left paw into a glove, proving he’s at his best in the worst weather by winning a wet professional sports race. But the best was yet to come. Entering the Superbike race against the best riders in the country on a wet but drying track, Trevor launched sharply off the line with his hand-and-a-half to take the lead. Despite being chased by defending series champion Ben Young in the closing stages, Trevor brought his GSXR1000 home to victory on a set of Bridgestone rain tires so worn they resembled slicks. With his second two-win race day of the summer, Trevor entered the record books as the only rider in CSBK history to pull off the double twice in a single season.

Winning is special. For every rider. At every level. But winning a Superbike race at Mosport, as CTMP was known for a long time, is an achievement reserved for only a few. Trevor wants to share this victory with those who have supported him in racing and in life. And despite post-race X-rays showing two broken bones in his hand (he’s on first-name terms with the X-ray team at his local hospital), he’ll be at the CSBK season finale in Shannonville on August 30-September 1. We look forward to seeing you there.
