Baldur’s Gate 3 was the best game of 2023 and many would say it’s the best RPG of all time. It’s a brilliant experience and still one of the most exciting games a year later, especially with official mod support coming out soon. Larian has won over a dozen awards in the last year and the success hasn’t stopped Baldur’s Gate 3 just won another award for best game to expand his trophy collection.

Although BG3 has only just turned a year old, there is a lot more to look forward to soon. We aren’t getting any DLCs or premium expansions, but Patch 7 is scheduled for September. This will bring mod support to PC, as well as the ability to download mods to PS5 and Xbox consoles. Not only will we be getting mods, but Patch 7 will also introduce more evil endings.

We can’t wait for Patch 7 to drop, but right now Larian is celebrating the first anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3. In honor of the first anniversary, Larian released new player stats and BG3 just won another award for best game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 wins the award for best game again

At the Hugo Awards on August 11, 2024, Baldur’s Gate 3 won the category “Best Game or Interactive Work”, beating Alan Wake 2, Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Dredge and Chants of Sennaar.

If you don’t know the Hugo Awards, they are an award for science fiction/fantasy literature that has been given out annually since 1955. The awards are voted on by the members of the World Science Fiction Convention/Worldcon.

The reaction from fans on Reddit to the Hugo Awards win was not surprising at all. One response reads, “This is the most famous award (among most people) BG3 has won to date, and we’re all so awards-weary that we’re just like, ‘Cool. Next?'” Another response reads, “Enter the ‘I can’t stop winning’ GIF.”

Earlier this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 became the first game to win every major Game of the Year award, including the BAFTAs, The Game Awards, Golden Joystick Awards, DICE Awards, and Game Developer Choice Awards. In total, it has won over 32 awards, making it one of the most prestigious games of all time.

Unfortunately, despite the success of BG3, there will be no sequel from Larian. Larian almost made parts of Baldur’s Gate 4 playable, but the team ultimately decided they didn’t want to spend another three years working on it.

While it’s disappointing that there won’t be a BG4 from Larian, the good news is that the developer is cooking up some great new RPG experiences. Larian is currently working on two new RPGs simultaneously, and both are of the same scope and scale as BG3.

In other gaming news, the PS Plus extra and premium games for August 2024 will soon be revealed.
