After a quiet debut of his NFL career in Week 1, rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. scored touchdowns on the Arizona Cardinals’ first two possessions of their game against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.

After the Rams failed to convert a fourth-and-2 on their first possession, the Cardinals took the lead and capped a six-play, 60-yard drive with a 23-yard pass from Kyler Murray to Harrison in a post pattern over Tre’Davious White.

The Rams went out and punted three times on their next series. Greg Dortch returned the ball 17 yards to the Arizona 40. And Arizona needed just one more play to take a 14-0 lead as Murray again connected with Harrison.

This time it was a 60-yard touchdown, with Harrison passing the Rams’ secondary on a deep crossing route, released by a run fake from James Conner and Murray rolling out to the right.

Harrison combined a 15-yard pass and a 32-yard pass and finished the first quarter with four catches (on five targets) for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

That’s a marked improvement over Harrison’s performance in Week 1, when he caught one pass for four yards in a 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The rookie was targeted just three times in that game.

As Nate Tice of Yahoo Sports said before the Week 2 games, the Bills played a “cloud” strategy against Harrison, with defenders positioned deep and high. The Rams took a different approach that clearly hasn’t worked so far.

As a result, the rookie wideout has made the impact that was expected when Arizona selected him fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
