Carson Steele made his first NFL appearance on Sunday against the Falcons, but that wasn’t the only big family moment for the Steele clan.
While the Chiefs running back was on the field, his older sister Kesslar got married in Indiana.
In a bizarre twist of fate, Steele made his NFL debut on the same day his older sister got married, turning the wedding reception into a major party.
Even though the Steele siblings weren’t there for each other’s big days, they were clearly together in spirit – and Kesslar even sent a video to NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” showing wedding guests witnessing the running back’s big moment.
“Kesslar and her now-husband Jack just sent us this video from their wedding reception that is taking place right now, where Carson is making his very first NFL appearance,” NBC’s Melissa Stark reported. “The timing wasn’t great. Today was the only day the venue was available. His sister sent out a save-the-date card over a year ago, and Carson was supposed to be the best man. But luckily they have the big screen, he’s there in spirit.”
To cap off a special day for the Steele family, the Chiefs left the field with a 22-17 victory over the Falcons and the running back managed 17 carries for 72 yards.
The Chiefs’ appearance on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” featured another cameo by Steele’s pet alligator, Crocky J.
The NBC broadcast showed a picture of Crocky-J wearing a white Chiefs cap.
The pet alligator became known to football fans during the opening game between the Ravens and the Chiefs in Week 1.
Kesslar had actually been babysitting her brother’s alligators during the Week 1 game when Crocky-J captured the hearts of football fans.
In an interview with the Indianapolis Star, Kesslar told the newspaper that watching Crocky-J is a job “that I always get.”
“It’s pretty simple,” Kesslar said. “He’s a pretty gentle alligator. I probably just don’t spend as much time with him as Carson. But I don’t mind taking care of him.”
