A cat who got lost in Yellowstone National Park was somehow able to return home more than 900 miles later with the help of its microchip, an animal welfare group reported.

Rayne Beau is a 2-and-a-half-year-old Seal Point Mitted Siamese cat. His owners Susanne and Benny Anguiano of Salinas, California, were visiting the park in Wyoming when he ran away, Susanne told CNN.

The recently relocated cat, whose name is pronounced “Rainbow,” disappeared on the first day of her trip to Fishing Bridge RV Park on June 4, Anguiano said.

“My husband is my hero because he spent hours every day searching for him in the woods,” Anguiano told CNN affiliate KSBW this week.

Rayne Beau ran into the woods in fear and the couple’s attempts to lure him back with his favorite treats and toys were unsuccessful, KSBW reported.

“We had to leave without him,” Anguiano told KSBW. “That was the worst day because I felt like I was letting him down.”

The heartbroken pet owner said she never gave up hope of finding her missing pet, according to KSBW. However, a month after Rayne Beau’s disappearance, they adopted another cat to keep his sister company, Anguiano told CNN.

According to Anguiano, the couple rescued Rayne Beau and his twin sister Starr when they were 11 weeks old.

Then, 61 days after Rayne Beau’s disappearance, the couple received a notification that a cat with Rayne Beau’s identification number had been found, KSBW reported.

Rayne Beau was found in Roseville, California, about 190 miles (305 kilometers) from his home in Salinas. He was then taken to the Placer Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Roseville, the society’s executive director, Leilani Fratis, confirmed in an email to CNN.

“We hope everyone recognizes the benefits that the microchip implant brings to their pet,” said Fratis.

The woman who dropped off the cat found it in poor health, KSBW reported.

“We have been in contact with the woman who found him in Roseville and took him in for a few nights before she was able to take him to the SPCA,” Anguiano told CNN.

In total, the cat traveled more than 1,000 miles from Wyoming to Roseville and then home to Salinas, California.

The couple said they don’t know exactly how Rayne Beau made it all the way back to California, but they are grateful he is home.

“We are thrilled to have him back,” Anguiano said. “I look at him every day and am so grateful and say to him, ‘Do you know how many weeks I have prayed to see that face again?'”
