CDOT and Lyft introduce new Divvy member benefit and celebrate 1,000th station

Chicago – The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Lyft, the operator of Chicago’s Divvy bike and scooter rental system, have announced a new benefit for Divvy members. Starting today, out-of-station parking fees will be waived when a member parks their e-bike or e-scooter near a full Divvy station. With this new addition, Divvy members can now park their e-bikes or e-scooters within 40 meters, or about 130 feet, of a full station without paying the $1.20 fee, improving the convenience and accessibility of the system.

This new benefit aligns with Divvy’s ongoing expansion throughout Chicago aimed at ensuring more equitable access to stations, recently reaching the significant milestone of reaching 1,000 stations citywide. All annual members receive this benefit, including members of Divvy for Everyone, which offers deeply discounted memberships to income-eligible Chicagoans.

“As bike ridership and Divvy usage continues to grow across Chicago, we are committed to making the system even more user-friendly and accessible.”, said CDOT Commissioner Tom Carney. “This new member benefit is a direct response to rider feedback and will be especially useful at our busiest stations. With the Democratic National Convention bringing tens of thousands of people to Chicago next week, Divvy’s bikes and scooters provide visitors and residents with a fantastic, car-free way to get around. We’re excited to continually improve the system to better serve everyone in the city.”

“We are constantly working to ensure that Divvy is a reliable and convenient transportation solution for passengers’ everyday lives,” said Abel Braughton, General Manager of Divvy at Lyft. “As Divvy grows and continues to expand to the South and West, we want even more Chicagoans to use Divvy.”

Last week, the 1,000th Divvy station was installed at Damen Avenue and Lake Street, coinciding with the opening of the new CTA Green Line station at that location. The new CTA Green Line station fills a critical transit gap on the Near West Side and, with the Divvy station, now serves as a multimodal hub, providing sustainable and equitable transportation options by train, bus, bike or foot for both residents and visitors.

Over the next few years, CDOT will add over 400 new Divvy stations throughout the city. The goal is to have at least four stations per square mile throughout Chicago, ensuring consistent station access in every neighborhood.

The Divvy system reached a record 6.6 million bike and scooter rides in 2023 and is on track to surpass that record in 2024.
