Céline Dion says she “did not support” Donald Trump’s use of “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally

Céline Dion’s team has stated that Donald Trump used the song “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally without authorization and that they “do not approve” of this.

At the political campaign rally in Bozeman, Montana, a video clip of Dion singing the 1997 song was shown on the big screen on Friday (August 9).

At the time, it was unclear whether Trump’s people had followed the proper channels to authorize use of the track, but in a social media post on Dion’s accounts on Saturday, the answer became clear.

“Today, Céline Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized use of the video, recording, musical performance and image of Céline Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump/JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” it said.

“This use is not authorized in any way and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.”

“…And really, THIS song?” was the conclusion of the statement, possibly an allusion to the synonymous connections of the song to Titanicthe most famous sinking ship in the world.

Dion had been invited to perform at Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, but again she declined to be associated with the former president.

The Canadian singer gave a stunning performance of Edith Piaf’s “L’Hymne a L’Amour” at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games on July 26, her first public appearance since announcing her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome in 2022.

Dion is far from the first artist to speak out after his music was used at a Trump rally. Earlier this year, after The Smiths’ “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” was played at one such event, Johnny Marr made his thoughts clear: “Consider this sh*t shut down immediately.”

In the past, Neil Young, the Rolling Stones, Queen and The Animals have raised similar objections.
