CEO opens new charity shop and receives ‘warm welcome’ ahead of opening

A charity shop in Buckinghamshire is set to open its first supermarket this autumn.

South Bucks Hospice, which has branches in Amersham, Bourne End, Chalfont St Peter and Hazlemere, has officially opened a branch in Waddesdon, near Aylesbury.

The outlet will be owned by Cause’s and will consist of a retail store and distribution center and will also house eBay inventory.

The charity is currently working to accept donations from September, The store is scheduled to open in October.

As part of the expansion, South Bucks Hospice will also be introducing a new collection service across Buckinghamshire, including house clearances and the collection of larger, sellable items of furniture.

Nick Callaghan, CEO of South Buck Hospice, said: “The supermarket offers us new opportunities to raise money for our vital community services.

“It is important that we can now also collect and accept larger pieces of furniture.”

“We know from experience that South Bucks residents are smart thinkers who recycle, reuse and support important causes.

“We are confident that our new business and services will be warmly welcomed.”

The Waddesdon store sells vintage and quality second-hand clothing, books and household items, some new items and larger furniture.

The charity is also looking for volunteers to join their existing friendly team.

What is South Bucks Hospice and what does it do?

South Bucks Hospice is a charity based in High Wycombe where it receives less than five percent of its funding from statutory sources.

The majority of the hospice’s funding comes from community generosity in the form of retail sales, donations and bequests.

The hospice cares for over 600 patients with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses every year.

In addition, it provides patient-centered care for individuals with specialized palliative, psychotherapy and lymphedema care. It also supports families and their caregivers.

Since its establishment in 1986, South Bucks Hospice has provided care tailored to the societal changes we face as a result of longer life expectancies.

As the only day hospice in South Buckinghamshire, it cares for over 350,000 people.
