Chad McQueen, “Karate Kid” star and only son of Steve McQueen, dies at 63

Chad McQueen, the only son of the late Hollywood legend Steve McQueen and an actor himself, played in the Karate Kid Franchise as the character “Dutch,” died of organ failure on Wednesday, his lawyer told TMZ. He was 63 years old.

He died at his home on a ranch in Palm Desert, California, in the presence of his family and Barens, the tabloid reported, citing McQueen’s lawyer Arthur Barens.

A previous injury is said to have caused the organ failure that ultimately led to his death.

On McQueen’s Instagram account, his wife Jeanie and children Chase and Madison released a statement on Thursday, saying: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Chad McQueen. His remarkable life as a loving father and his unwavering devotion to our mother were true examples of a life filled with love and devotion.”

McQueen landed his breakthrough Hollywood role after starring as Dutch in The Karate Kid Franchise. He played the character in both the original 1984 version Karate Kid and in “Karate Kid II,” which came out two years later.

Over the course of his career spanning more than two decades, Chad has starred in 26 films and television shows.
