Champions League: FC Bayern Munich with a thrilling win for Zagreb against | Sport

They just keep shooting!

Three days after the 6-1 victory in Kiel, Bayern went on another goal-scoring spree in their Champions League opener against the clear underdog Zagreb, this time even celebrating a furious 9-2 victory!

This means that Bayern are making a sensational start to a very special Champions League season for them. The Munich team is dreaming of the “Finale dahoam” in their own living room on May 31, 2025.

Outstanding man: Superstar Harry Kane, who scored a total of four goals – three of them from penalties.

But for a short time there were concerns about Manuel Neuer – but now the all-clear has been given!

After four minutes, Neuer storms out of his box to just before the halfway line to clear a long ball. In doing so, he collides with Croatia’s Kante Petkovic (1.93 meters) and lands heavily on his back, but is initially able to continue playing.

But after the break, Neuer stays in the dressing room and Ulreich moves between the posts for him.

Neuer explained in the mixed zone after the game: “I fell and my stamina was a bit off. And then I hit a few balls and it stung my thigh again. But it’s nothing serious, just a small thing.”

New coach Vincent Kompany (38), who is in a position for the Champions League unusual bomber jacket on the sidelines, has changed three positions in his starting eleven compared to the victory in Kiel. Because Boey (torn meniscus) was injured in training and Stanisic (torn lateral ligament) is also out for a long time as the second right-back, Guerreiro has to play at right back.

Joshua Kimmich back in midfield

This means that Kimmich can continue to play in midfield – at least in defence. Because in attack, the DFB captain repeatedly drops between the centre-backs to shape the build-up play.

In addition to Boey, Coman and Palhinha will also have to watch for the time being. Olise, Davies and Pavlovic will play instead.

Gnabry apparently scores to make it 1-0 (16th minute). Referee Martinez Munuera (Spain) disallows the goal due to an offside position. However, Pavlovic went down in the penalty area after a challenge with Pierre-Gabriel.

The referee awards a penalty using video evidence. Kane stays cool from the spot and fools Croatia keeper Nevistic – 1:0 (20′)!

Then the Bavaria 2-0: Musiala chests a Gnabry cross straight to Guerreiro, who humourlessly hammers the ball into the left corner with a drop kick (35′)!

After a short corner, Kimmich finds Olise with a cross, who nods in completely unmarked to make it 3-0 (38′)!

Bayern showed a mega-dominant performance in the first half (72 percent possession, 9:1 shots). But after the break, a completely different picture suddenly emerged.

Dinamo Zagreb shocks Bayern Munich shortly after the break

Zagreb shocked Bayern out of nowhere with a double strike: First, Petkovic made it 3-1 while falling (49th minute), only a few seconds later Ogiwara tunneled Ulreich, bringing Zagreb to 2-3!

But Bayern are unimpressed and quickly deliver the perfect answer: Nevistic lets a Kimmich shot bounce forward, where Kane cleans up and only has to push the ball over the line – 4:2 (57.)!

With his 31st Champions League goal, Kane overtook Wayne Rooney as the competition’s most accurate Englishman.

After initially being denied a hat-trick due to an offside position (59th minute), Kane then scored a hat-trick with his second penalty, making it 6-2 (73rd minute). Kane then made it 7-2 with his third penalty (78th minute)!

Before that, Olise scored the 5:2 (61st minute). In the final phase, Sané scored the 8:2 (85th minute) on his comeback after his groin surgery, while substitute Goretzka made it 9:2 (90th+2).

Crazy: Bayern have now won their 21st Champions League opening game in a row (60:7 goals)!

On the second matchday of the new league mode with 36 clubs, Bayern will travel to Aston Villa as the league leaders (2 October, 9 p.m.). But before that, there are still the Bundesliga-Games in Bremen (21.9., 15.30) and against Leverkusen (28.9., 18.30).

It is possible that the next goal rush will follow …
