Chart-topper shot dead in chicken restaurant – man found guilty of sending 17-year-old son to kill

Rapper PnB Rock died tragically in September 2022 at the age of 30 after being shot while dining with his girlfriend at a Los Angeles restaurant.

The Philadelphia-born star, whose real name is Rakim Allen and who had worked with Ed Sheeran, was taken to hospital for emergency treatment but was sadly pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles restaurant in South Los Angeles. Sources at the time suspected that PnB Rock was targeted because of his jewelry.

Now a man has been found guilty by a Los Angeles jury of sending his 17-year-old son to kill the rapper. Freddie Trone, 42, was found guilty on several counts, including murder, two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

PnB suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said the teenager took items from the rapper after demanding his jewelry and opening fire. Mr Trone was accused of driving the getaway car, according to local press.

The boy, now 19, was also arrested for murder and robbery, but is not yet fit to stand trial. A third man was also charged and found guilty of two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. Both men are expected to be sentenced later this month.

PnB Rock, known for his hit Selfish – which topped the Apple Music Top Songs chart after his death – had previously spoken about his inspiration to become an artist, citing Drake’s album Take Care as the catalyst for his music career. He had a particular talent for mixing melodies with rap, making him a great addition to the evolving hip-hop scene.

In a 2017 interview with Paper Magazine, he described his unique style, saying, “People can’t say I’m a rapper, but I don’t feel like I’m a singer either. I don’t hit super high notes and go crazy. I can’t give you Chris Brown vocals. I just have good melodies.”

PnB Rock leaves behind two daughters, Milan and Xuri, and partner Steph, who said PnB saved her life during the shooting.
