Check out Missoula’s new Northside Coffee Shop from the inside

I took a look at the new coffee and thrift store on the north side of Missoula.

I visited Funk It Coffee & Thrift this week during their soft opening event and the shop was already bustling with activity. The doors were wide open, welcoming passersby. natural light streamed into the large Window.

You are immediately met with a disco ball in the lobby and cozy sofas with soft fabrics and cushions. You feel like you are in the living room of a trusted relative. There is kitschy There are details everywhere, such as an old-fashioned television that serves as a coffee table, with plants hanging over the front where the screen would otherwise be.

The walls are decorated with beautiful art in bright, colorful tones reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s. REtro signs hang from wrought iron brackets screwed into the large wooden columns, and in the back corner you will Check out a skull disco ball to add some more character to the room.

The bar is from the former Kettlehouse Brewing, which was just down the street, and before that it was one of the alleys in Liberty Lanes. If you not If you know the bar’s history, you may not realize that you’re drinking your latte on the roof of an old bowling alley. Even after all these years, the wood shines and fits beautifully into the room.

Co-owners Markie and Chloë were busy around the store providing training to new employees, but Markie also took a moment to talk to me about the new store.

“We’re so grateful to have people here. Opening a coffee shop in our neighborhood is a dream come true. We can’t wait to meet everyone,” Markie said. People share her excitement, she said, especially about having a business like Funk It Coffee & Thrift (314 N 1st St W in Missoula, MT) on the north side of town.

But what is it that draws people to a combination café and thrift store? It’s cozy and familiar, but it’s also the ritual of it all.

“You always have wants Frugality with a drink in hand. SO It is nice to be able to either save money while you wait for your drink to be prepared, or simply somehow come and, look at things. It is the combination of the two for Chloë and Me. That was exactly what we wanted to do. Was like: “We want to drink coffee and frugality at the same time. So why not just combine them?’ And it seems like everyone agrees with us.”

The shop is now officially open with the following opening hours:

  • Thursday 7am – 6pm
  • Friday 7am – 6pm
  • Saturday 8am – 4pm
  • Sunday and Monday CLOSED
  • Tuesday, 27.08.24: Start of regular opening hours
