Check your ticket! The million Powerball ticket from the neighborhood corner store is about to expire

Someone in Philly is running out of time to take the money and leave. Someone has a $1 million lottery ticket and may not even know it. Time is running out to claim the prize.

It is only valid for one year. It was sold on October 4, 2023 in East Germantown as part of the historic Powerball run that raised over a billion dollars. Many in the community spoke of their longing to finally own the ticket.

George Taylor explained: “I wish it was me. I wish I knew who the person was. I would call them.”

Local resident Nafesa Dickerson added: “I wish I was that person. I don’t play the lottery. I wish I was doing it now.”

The ticket was purchased at United Food Market, a small corner store located at 500 East Walnut Avenue. The winning ticket matched all five white balls drawn. The winning numbers are 9 – 35 – 54 – 63 and 64.

“I can’t believe it. I would have been here first thing in the morning,” said resident Jamar Johnson. “I can’t believe it. But it’s crazy.”

FOX 29’s Dawn Timmeney asked, “Don’t you think it has to be someone from the neighborhood?”

Taylor replied, “I think so.”

Most people agree that there is a good chance that the big winner is a regular customer of the store and lives nearby.

Dickerson continued, “A lot of people come here every day to play the lottery, so it has to be someone. They probably just put it away.”
Timmeney asked, “You said your mother plays?”

“Yes, it does,” Dickerson replied. “October 4, 2023, yes.”

“Have her examined,” Timmeney said.

“I’m going to have her examined,” Dickerson explained.

Local resident Anita Bailey-Johnson said: “I’m shocked that you can buy a ticket here and win a million dollars and not know it. Unbelievable. They should hurry up. Fast.”

Bailey-Johnson said she plans to tell everyone in the neighborhood so the ticket doesn’t go unclaimed. “Even my own kids. They don’t live in town, but when they come to visit, they come to this store and I know they play Powerball, so I’ll be sure to have them check. You never know. You never know.”
