Chesterton Police Chief Tim Richardson expects the department’s new station at 791 Broadway to be operational before Labor Day (Monday, September 2).

“We are moving in,” he told the city council at its meeting on Monday evening, August 12, “slowly but surely.”

According to the city of Chesterton, the CPD will begin moving its “stuff” into the new police precinct on Monday, August 19. It hopes to have the building up and running — with all computers and servers online — sometime during the week of Monday, August 26. “The goal is before Labor Day,” Richardson said.

Richardson specifically wanted to tell the City Council that officers and staff are “delighted,” especially with the “unmatched security improvements” that the City Council approved as part of the station’s design. “The rank-and-file members of the police force have asked me to express their appreciation to you.”
