A group of brazen thieves took to the streets of Chicago and looted luxury goods retailer Prada as the Windy City prepared for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in just over a week.
According to Chicago police, a group of three to four perpetrators smashed the glass door of the precious metal dealer’s storefront at 5:30 a.m. local time on Saturday.
Photos from FOX 32 showed broken shop windows and display cases.
Police said the group sped away in a white SUV and authorities are still searching for them.

The Prada theft is part of an ongoing, disturbing crime trend in Chicago and comes as some 50,000 visitors flock to the city to attend the DNC from August 19-22.

On the weekend of July 4th last month, the city announced that 19 people were killed and over 100 were injured by gunfire.
While Chicago’s murder rate has declined since 2020, sexual assault, robbery, assault, theft and motor vehicle theft have all increased.

According to FOX 32, improvements are currently being made to roads and sidewalks to seal off the convention grounds from the public.
In addition, authorities are imposing strict measures against people living and working within the security zone, including vehicle checks.
