Chick-fil-A employee saves life of choking guest in Texas restaurant

A team member at Chick-fil-A in El Paso is being hailed as a hero after saving the life of a choking customer in the restaurant’s dining room.

The employee – identified only as Isaac – took action at the Chick-fil-A restaurant at 1840 N. Zaragoza Road on Tuesday, Aug. 13, said Rene Hernandez, the restaurant’s owner and operator.

“Isaac performed the Heimlich hold system he learned in college physical education class last semester,” Hernandez said in a statement. “Isaac says he is thankful to God for being in the right place at the right time. We are grateful for Isaac’s quick action to help the guest.”

The feat was shared in a now-viral post by FitFam, which showed a message from an unnamed person describing their experience.

“Fortunately, Isaac was there and immediately jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver on me. This is a reminder to everyone to know how to do it right. You never know when it’s your turn to save someone’s life. Thank you Isaac for saving my life,” the message said.

The El Paso Times contacted Chick-fil-A’s corporate office to arrange an interview with the employee, but like most heroes, he preferred not to be in the spotlight.
