Chiefs News: Kareem Hunt joins practice squad after Pacheco injury

The Kansas City Chiefs are signing running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad, a source confirmed to Proud of the arrowhead. Hunt visited the Chiefs on Tuesday and trained with them.

It’s been a while for the 29-year-old, who had a falling out with Kansas City during the 2018 season. Before an off-field incident led to the club releasing him, Hunt was having a pretty good year. In 11 appearances, he had 181 carries for 824 yards and seven touchdowns, as well as 26 catches for 378 yards and another seven touchdowns through the air.

During Hunt’s next five seasons with the Cleveland Browns, he averaged 145 touches for 668 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns per season.

Hunt was needed after running back Isiah Pacheco broke his fibula in his team’s 26-25 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Pacheco is currently expected to be placed on the injured list and be out for approximately six to eight weeks.

In terms of training, the Chiefs were pleased with Hunt’s physical condition, but feel he needs some time to get into game shape.

Meanwhile, undrafted rookie Carson Steele and veteran addition Samaje Perine, who signed late in the season, are expected to do the bulk of the work. Kansas City will also likely call up Keontay Ingram or Emani Bailey from the practice quarterback.

The Chiefs travel to Atlanta this weekend to play the Falcons on Sunday Night Football.
