Shopper Christopher Michael Nice shared the news of the impending closure in a Facebook post in the Retail Dead or Alive group on Saturday.

He noted that Claire’s is closing in a Walmart in Westminster, Colorado – about 12 miles from Denver.

Nice paired the post with a photo of the closing store, which had a metal gate in front of it.

“Going, going, gone!” read a sign at the entrance to Claire’s. “Shop at unbeatable prices before the store closes.”

A Claire’s fan expressed his dismay at the closure, pointing out that the jeweler had been an important part of his life since childhood.

“My childhood memories are getting worse… again,” she wrote.

Claire’s

Founded in 1961, Claire’s began as a small jewelry store in Chicago.

Since then, it has grown into an international retailer with over 2,000 stores in various countries.

The company is known for its ear piercing services and primarily targets children, teenagers and young adults.

Claire’s products include jewelry, hair accessories and beauty items.

Other customers noted that more Claire’s stores in Walmarts would be closing, including one in Milford, Ohio – 15 miles from Cincinnati – and another in Dinuba, California – 30 miles from Fresno.

JEWELRY GIANT

Founded in 1961, Claire’s sells accessories, jewelry and toys to its main target audience, teenage girls.

There are around 1,500 Claire’s locations in the US and over 300 shop-in-shops in Walmart stores.

Claire’s partnered with the retail giant in 2018 to help Walmart establish itself as a fashion destination and encourage new customers to shop at the jewelry chain.

The partnership has expanded over time and Claire’s products are now available in over 2,500 Walmart stores and on the retailer’s website.

The shop-in-shops typically offer the same services as the standalone Claire’s stores, including ear piercing.

Claire’s has locations in 17 countries in North America and Europe and has opened shop-in-shop locations internationally, for example in the French department store Galeries Lafayette.

In addition to Walmart, Claire’s has product displays in major U.S. retail stores including DSW, Toys “R” US and Kohl’s.

The jewelry chain also partnered with Walgreens in March to bring its products to 4,400 Walgreens stores.

Stores now have special displays of Claire’s products in the seasonal department.

“Walgreens is an industry leader that serves millions of people every day with a wide range of products, making them a one-stop shop and a natural fit for us to deliver convenience and incredible value with our fashion products,” said Ryan Vero, CEO of Claire’s.

Other popular retailers are also closing their stores.

A Home Depot competitor has filed for bankruptcy and dozens of locations are expected to close.

In addition, dozens of Subway locations were closed without warning.
