While we’re still waiting for news on Alex Myers’ audition for Happy Gilmore 2, the streaming giant made its first official casting announcements for the long-awaited sequel on Tuesday, including some new (and familiar) faces. As we hoped and expected, Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen – of Modern Family fame – will reprise their roles as Shooter McGavin and Virginia Venit.
There is a new joker in the mix: Benito Martinez Ocasio, also known as Bad Bunny.
While Ocasio is best known for his music – the so-called “King of Latin Trap” was the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2020, 2021 and 2022 – he has also made a name for himself in show business. Ocasio regularly appears on the WWE circuit, where he scored a well-received tag team victory at Wrestlemania 37, among other achievements, and has appeared in big-budget Hollywood action films such as “F9” and “Bullet Train.”
Earlier this week, Netflix announced that production on “Happy Gilmore 2” had officially begun. Adam Sandler will reprise his title role, while “Uncut Gems” co-director Benny Safdie and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are also set to appear in the film.
