Christopher Reeves’ children remember his heroism

Christopher Reeves’ children remember his heroism

Christopher Reeve had his problems, but his children remember his heroic qualities and hope they will continue to do so in the future.

Christopher Reeve

If there was ever a fitting title for a documentary about Christopher Reeve, it is Supermanbecause he not only played the Man of Steel, but proved himself to be one. Christopher Reeve’s story is truly inspirational. Yes, to all of us he will always be Superman, but to a few he was dad. Nevertheless, the superhero shone through.

Speaking to People, Christopher Reeves’ son Will said: “Heroism is so much more than superficial strength and a shiny image. It’s about integrity, about being there for your family, about persevering in difficult situations and still having that joy in life. That was our father… You’re there for the people you love and you give them everything you have because you don’t know how much longer you’re going to have with them. That’s something I took from my childhood and it’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Although Christopher Reeve was not without faults and his private life was at times subject to serious disruption – all of this is portrayed in Superman – he still often realized what the lives of the people around him meant. As his daughter Alexandra put it: “It’s a wonderful thing to be able to see a person’s whole life… There were ups and downs, but also two deep, true loves and (three) children who together made up this wonderful family.”

Christopher Reeve suffered a life-changing injury in 1995 when he was thrown from his horse. He was left paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life. Soon after, he became involved with the disabled and acted as a campaigner and advocate. Reeve died in 2004.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where our own Chris Bumbray praised it in a 9/10 review. The film opens on 21 September.

Outside the Superman Movies, what is your favorite Christopher Reeve performance? Personally, I go with Death trapa great black comedy/thriller that he made between Superman II And Chapter Three.
