City police arrest two people in the parking lot of a Walmart gas station

A Newport, Arkansas man and a Plymouth woman were arrested in the parking lot of a Walmart gas station Monday night.

Monday at 9:50 am, Corporal Schieber of the Plymouth Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with false and fictitious license plates.

The driver was identified as 42-year-old John Matlock of Newport, Arkansas, and the passenger was 42-year-old Brandy Varga of Plymouth.

It turned out that John Matlock had a suspended and expired Arkansas driver’s license, while Varga had felony warrants out of Elkhart County.

Matlock was taken into custody for driving while suspended and driving without financial responsibility, despite having a previous charge against him.

Varga was detained in the Marshall County Jail on outstanding warrants.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only a reasonable suspicion to believe that a crime has been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent throughout the trial and are entitled to legal representation and to a jury trial, where the State is required to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt before a verdict of guilt can be entered.
