CJ Mosley (toe) out for Jets, misses first game since 2021

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – For only the second time in the last three or more seasons, the New York Jets will be without middle linebacker CJ Mosley, who was among the non-players in Thursday night’s game against the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium.

Mosley suffered a bruised right big toe on the first series of the Jets’ 24-17 win over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. He stayed in the game for one more series but left the game early in the second quarter. He did not practice during the week and was listed as questionable.

Jamien Sherwood is set to replace Mosley and will also take on the signaling role for the defense.

“I feel super comfortable with Jamien,” said coach Robert Saleh. “I trust him completely to call the defense and make the necessary checks. He has outstanding mental speed and outstanding communication skills.”

The last time Mosley missed a game was in 2021. That was also against the Patriots. Sherwood, a rookie at the time, started at center and struggled mightily as the Jets were dispatched 54-13. Since then, he has gained considerable experience.

Mosley, 32, has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times and is the emotional leader of the Jets’ defense, recording 12 tackles in the first two games.
