SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — Clarion County military veterans and their spouses are invited to attend this year’s Clarion County Veterans Picnic on Saturday, August 17, at Clarion County Park.
The event lasts from 12:00 to 16:00
Caregivers and minor children of veterans are also welcome.
Also invited are widows of veterans and non-county veterans who are members of a Clarion County-based veterans service organization (with proof of membership).
Rodney L. Sherman, director of the Clarion County Department of Veterans Affairs, told exploreClarion.com, “This is an opportunity for veterans of all ages, eras and branches to spend a few hours with their brothers and sisters in arms, share experiences and tell a few stories.”
Sherman added that there will be music, food, drawings and representatives from other veterans services such as Butler VMAC and other veterans-focused agencies.
“Numerous VFW and American Legion posts and other civic groups throughout the county have donated money for the food and admission fees,” Sherman explained.
“Clarion County Civil Air Patrol cadets will provide flag guard and assist with parking. The Clarion VFW Post’s Liberty House Restaurant will provide catering for the event and the Clarion American Legion Post will sponsor The Meadows’ frozen custard desserts.”
Sherman said the entire event is funded by donations.
“The Clarion VFW is providing food and service at cost and we have received kind donations from the VFWs in Rimersburg and New Bethlehem, the American Legion bases in Lamartine and Strattanville, the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club, the Clarion County Rod and Gun Club, Clarion Monuments, the Servicemen’s Club of Knox, the Clarion Eagles, the New Bethlehem Moose, the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and the Amvets Club of Forest County.”
Sherman said, “These groups have been very generous in supporting the picnic.”
Volunteers from the Bauer-Hillis funeral home want to help prepare the hot dogs and hamburgers.
Veterans who signed up for the annual invitation mailing should have received their postcards. County veterans attending the picnic should sign up for next year’s mailing.
