Cleanup after storm damage in Edgewater Park, NJ continues

EDGEWATER PARK, New Jersey (WPVI) — Residents of Edgewater Park, New Jersey, are still cleaning up after torrential rains caused flooding in their homes earlier this week.

“It looks dry, but it’s not. It’s not. You can smell it,” says Elaine Smith, standing in her kitchen.

The smell of moldy carpet and baseboards fills Elaine Smith’s home. She was one of many in the Silver Park West community flooded by heavy rains on Tuesday.

“The water was up to the baseboards, ankle-deep,” Smith said.

Milton Moore is busy cleaning up.

“We remove carpets and underlayment. We remove damaged flooring. We cut up drywall, remove insulation. We just dry everything off and disinfect it,” Moore said.

He is the owner of Chosen Restoration and because of the severe storms the phone has been ringing nonstop.

“From Delaware, New Castle, Claymont, Wilmington. Everywhere, because there were a lot of tornadoes and stuff last night,” he said.

Tuesday’s storm also brought flash flooding to Willingboro. In the Burlington County area, 77 flooded vehicles were evacuated.

In Riverside, cars in the parking lots of The Mill at Riverside were completely flooded. Garages were also empty.
