Cleveland community outraged by conditions in corner shop

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Cleveland man is frustrated with the conditions at his local corner store, Food Plus, on the corner of East 123rd and Dove Avenue.

Alfonso Davis sent 19 news photos showing mold and crumbling ceilings in the store.

“Nobody should enter this store, it’s dangerous, it’s a risk!” said Davis.

“This place is dangerous, the mold is growing on the walls, the water is dripping, the kids come in here and pick up all the moldy stuff.”

19 News investigated the complaints and spoke to the shop owners.

One owner, who wished to remain anonymous, attributed the damage to recent storms and said he was working with his insurance company to repair the damage.

“Look, I’m on the phone with All State about the recent storm and they promise me they’re looking for a roofing company,” he said.

However, people in the community laughed at his answer and said that the problems had been going on for years.

The other owner, who was not happy with 19 News’ presence, promised that everything would be fixed soon.

“This is garbage… Next week, when you come, everything will be perfect… Everything will be fixed.”

19 News has reached out to the Cleveland Health Department for comment. The company plans to return to the store to verify that repairs have been made.
