Yesterday I was at Walmart with my son. We were looking at Bluey toys when we suddenly heard the words over the intercom “CODE ADAM!” After ‘Code Adam’ followed the words “Male, 5’8” tall, brown hair, brown eyes, wearing a black shirt and black pants.” I wasn’t quite sure what that meant. My mind started racing. Was it a missing child? Is it a shoplifter? Is it a deranged lunatic with a gun? What does “Code Adam” mean and why didn’t they reassure us that everything was OK?

WALMART CODES:

CODE BROWN:

When you hear “Code Brown” over the intercom, you want to leave the store as quickly as possible because that means there is a ACTIVE SHOOTER situation happens.

CODE GREEN:

Code Green is also a frightening situation because it means that an active Hostage-taking take place.

CODE BLUE:

Another code that makes you want to get away as quickly as possible is Code Blue. A Code Blue is a POSSIBLE BOMB in the building or its surroundings. Leave the building immediately.

CODE WHITE:

A Code White does not mean that you have to leave the store immediately, as there is a ACCIDENT or INJURY in the store.

CODE RED:

A Code Red is followed by a number. This number indicates which aisle the emergency is in. Code Red means there is a fire in the store. So if you “CODE RED K13” Then a fire was apparently reported in corridor K13.

CODE ORANGE:

A Code Orange represents a chemical spill that has occurred somewhere in the business. Of course, if you ever experience a Code Orange, it’s best to stay away and let the professionals clean up the spill.

CODE BLACK:

If you have a CODE BLACKyou might actually want to stay INSIDE the store. A Code Black means that there is bad weather in the area. Depending on the weather conditions, you should find a safe place in the store.

CODE ADAM:

And finally, the code I heard with my son… Code Adam! This code is scary for parents because a Code Adam means that a child is missing somewhere in the store. Then the employees look out for that child, especially at the exits, and make sure that the child does not leave alone or with someone who should not take them.
