The Longhorns are the new No. 1 team according to FPI after their dominating performance on Saturday in Ann Arbor. The 31-12 victory practically proved that this Texas team is ready to win a title.

Regardless of how Michigan does this season, Texas has given it their all after Week 1. ESPN considers them the best team in the country, at least according to the stats.

It may be a little surprising that Georgia isn’t ranked as the best team in the country, but that’s exactly what ESPN’s FPI did this week.

The Bulldogs defeated Tennessee Tech last week just as they did Clemson, but it seems the ratings favored Texas’ victory over the defending national champions a little more.

There’s just something special about South Florida and Alabama. It’s a strange matchup, and the FPI ratings have the Crimson Tide dropping one spot.

Yes, Alabama still won. In fact, it was a 42-16 victory. But Kalen DeBoer’s team scored 28 points in the fourth quarter after leading just 14-13 for the final 15 minutes.

The Buckeyes failed to improve and remained at No. 4 in the FPI standings. This is the best team in the Big Ten, and it might not be particularly close.

Another dominating game over the weekend, a 56-0 win over Western Michigan, and people are dying to see this team in conference competition. They’ll have to wait a couple of weeks because it’s an off week and they play a non-conference game against Marshall first.

Tennessee stayed the course with a 51-10 victory over NC State, ranked No. 24 in last week’s AP poll, with Nico Iamaleava scoring three total touchdowns on that all-time route.

This game was also played on the road, which had a positive impact on the FPI ratings. Tennessee is now one of the top five teams in the country and looks to be a real threat in the SEC.

The Ole Miss train is moving and moving fast. The Rebels beat MSTU 52-3 and Jaxson Dart had a day where he completed 24 consecutive passes.

Crazy, right? It’s still early, but the FPI ratings are currently positive for Ole Miss, catapulting them up two spots from last week.

Penn State was penalized for a close game against Bowling Green on Saturday. FPI knocked the Nittany Lions out of the top 5 after Week 2.

It was too close to be comfortable at home, and Penn State barely escaped. Still, it could be just a minor upset to start the year.

8. USC (+7)

Welcome to the Trojans’ top 10. ESPN’s FPI moved Lincoln Riley’s team up seven spots after a 48-0 win over Utah State.

USC beat LSU in Week 1 and looked absolutely dominant on Saturday. The big test comes next week when they visit Michigan for their first Big Ten game. That should be exciting.

The Tigers moved up three spots in the FPI standings after beating Buffalo 38-0 this weekend. Missouri has outscored both of its opponents 89-0 through two weeks.

Yeah, it doesn’t matter who you play. That’s pretty impressive. The Tigers host a 2-0 Boston College team in town next week.

Brutal home defeat for Notre Dame after a clear win over Texas A&M in the season opener. The offense lost its footing in a 16-14 loss to Northern Illinois.

The defense is certainly legitimate, but until the offense finds its neutral position again, the FPI could continue to punish the Irish.
