Comedian Eric Andre claims he was subjected to “racial discrimination” at Melbourne Airport after staff pulled him out of line and deployed a sniffer dog

American comedian and actor Eric Andre claimed he was the victim of “racial profiling” at Melbourne Airport after he was singled out and sniffed by a sniffer dog while waiting in line.

In a video posted on social media on Monday, the 41-year-old host of the Eric Andre Show said he had spent the last 25 hours on a work-related flight from New York to Melbourne and then to Brisbane.

While at Melbourne Airport, Andre said he was pulled out of a line and placed in a separate line before being “thoroughly sniffed” by a dog.

He claimed that airport staff singled him out because of his race and that he had experienced similar incidents at the airport in the past.

“This is one of the many times I have been a victim of racial discrimination at the airport, so this is a message to all Black, Brown and Indigenous people travelling through Melbourne today… please be careful,” Andre said.

He asked anyone who might employ him to work in Australia in the future to either fly him to a different airport or, if he flew to Melbourne, to ensure that a security officer escorted him through the airport.

“Shame on the people at Melbourne Airport,” he said.

“This is unethical… it has nothing to do with safety, it has nothing to do with racist harassment.”

In response, Melbourne Airport left a comment under Andre’s video saying that they were investigating his complaints.

The company said it does not tolerate racism of any kind.

“Melbourne Airport is proud to be the gateway to one of the most multicultural cities in the world,” a spokesman said.

“We welcome all passengers to Melbourne and expect everyone to be treated equally.”

Melbourne Airport has been contacted for further comment.
