The Dallas County Commission has denied a lounge retail license to an Orrville nightclub where a 19-year-old was shot and killed on July 7.

Sandra Rogers Simmons has applied to operate the Shop Boyz Lounge at 3901 County Road 33 in Orrville under a Type 010 (Lounge Retail Liquor Class 1) license. During their regular meeting on Monday, August 12, County Commissioner Jan Justice recommended that the commission deny the application due to the previous incident at the business.

Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, who presides over the commission meetings, said the commission follows the recommendation of the county commissioner on such alcohol applications.

The resolution was rejected unanimously.

The problems stem from the July 5 incident in which 19-year-old Jeremy Bryant of Orrville was killed and another man was wounded in the leg in a shooting at the bar.

Dallas County Sheriff’s officials arrested six men and charged them with murder. The suspects arrested included Tremark Atkins, Roger Murray, Aaron Tower, Mikle Butler, Marquis Owens and Ja’Travius Simmons. No bail was set for them.

In another matter, the Dallas County Commission also approved a liquor license for the Kaypi Food Mart in Marion Junction, formerly known as Mae’s Country Store.
