Cone Park wants to expand its facilities to include an outdoor terrace and an event space

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A terrace project for a new addition to Cone Park is on the Sioux City Council agenda Monday.

Council will be asked Monday to approve a $60,000 consulting contract for surveying, designing and building a terrace project in the park.

The patio would be located near the park’s current lodge and would include about a half-acre of outdoor seating and entertainment space. City officials say the space could be used as an outdoor gathering place for park visitors or as a community space for events or parties.

This summer, Cone Park opened its mountain bike trails and park. This patio area was part of the original design concept for the trail project, but was removed due to initial budgetary constraints.

The construction budget for the project is expected to be in the range of $320,000 to $350,000, city documents show, and could include things like fire pits, swing benches, decorative overhead lighting, a variety of seating options, yard games, bike racks and mobile bars.

SIOUXLAND SYRINGES

Following the official groundbreaking on Friday, the city and the creators of Siouxland Splash are moving forward with the reconstruction of the turning lanes on Business Highway 75.

The City Council is being asked to approve a $1.5 million contract for Bainbridge Construction LLC of Kingsley, Iowa. This contract is for the construction of a southbound left turn lane and a northbound right turn lane on Business Highway 75. This would also include a new road for future development east of Business Highway 75, with grading, storm sewer and water main also included in the project.

On April 22, 2024, the Council approved a grant agreement with the Iowa DOT under the Revitalizing Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) program to fund up to 50% of eligible project costs, but does not include utilities or stormwater drainage unless required for the road.

The Sioux City City Council meets every Monday at 4 p.m. on the 5th floor of City Hall in downtown Sioux City.
