Construction of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Bellingham begins earlier than expected

Texas Roadhouse, one of Bellingham’s most highly anticipated restaurant chains, is planning to open a local location, but there are still a few things to do before the opening.

The chain’s BBQ restaurant, known for its honey-cinnamon-butter rolls, steaks, ribs, appetizers and cocktails, doesn’t have an opening date yet, but is slowly getting closer.

The restaurant had already applied for its first building permit from the city of Bellingham in September 2023. It plans to take over the abandoned building that previously housed Billy McHale’s Restaurant at 4331 Meridian Street in the parking lot of HomeGoods and Summit Adventure Park, the Bellingham Herald previously reported.

The estimated cost of the building permit for the new building was $1.63 million.

In November 2023, the restaurant filed another permit to demolish the abandoned building of the former restaurant.

Now, after months of silence, the company has applied for further permits and is making progress toward opening.

“We are excited to join the Bellingham community and plan to begin construction in early spring,” a Texas Roadhouse PR representative wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.

Two new permits have been filed with the City of Bellingham for a new Texas Roadhouse restaurant at 4331 Meridian Street. The permits, one for shelving and one for a walk-in cooler, were applied for on January 18 and had not been approved as of January 19.

As of Wednesday, Texas Roadhouse’s media team had not responded to a request for comment, and the company’s website did not yet list Bellingham on the soon-to-open locations page.
