Corbin Carroll hits two home runs at Coors

DENVER – Corbin Carroll hit a home run in each of the first two innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks lead the Colorado Rockies 6-0 after 2 1/2 innings at Coors Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The first home run gave him 20 on the season, putting him in the 20/20 club for the second time in as many major league seasons. After his second home run, Carroll has 21 home runs and 29 steals.

The Diamondbacks want to avoid a three-game win against the Rockies.

Carroll hit an Austin Gomber fastball into right field, a sure shot that gave the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. Arizona scored two more runs on RBI singles from Christian Walker and Gabriel Moreno.

In the second inning, Carroll hit a two-run shot down the right field line. Randal Grichuk then hit the first pitch he saw from Gomber straight into center, making it 6-0.

What you should know about the Milwaukee Brewers

The Diamondbacks played the Brewers at Chase Field last weekend and were nearly swept, losing a one-point game on Friday and a blowout on Saturday before winning a wild back-and-forth finale. The Brewers entered Wednesday with their magic number of winning the National League Central by one point, decided by a win over the Philadelphia Phillies or a loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Brewers split the first two games of their series against the Phillies, winning on Monday and losing on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks will see at least two pitchers this weekend they didn’t see last time: RHPs Aaron Civale and Frankie Montas, both signed before the trade deadline. Civale came from the Rays, Montas from the Reds.
