Sometimes the hard work is already done when the owner of a classic car decides to abandon the restoration project.

The next owner of this 1957 Corvette convertible was not so lucky.

Whoever takes on the challenge of bringing this car back to life might want to start pumping weights now in anticipation of the hard work ahead.

As the seller openly admits in his eBay ad, this five-year-old Corvette requires a “complete restoration.”

So far, this assessment has not deterred anyone, as there are already 13 bids, the highest of which has risen to $18,400. There is still a long way to go until the auction ends next Wednesday, August 14.

Currently, most of the parts are reportedly installed “loosely” and the new owner will also need to repair damage to the lower left rocker panel, focus on fitment, and make some underbody repairs.

The seller optimistically assumes that 90 percent of the original parts are still on the car, but admits that some are “good,” some are “bad,” some are “ugly,” and some are even “very nice.”

The latter category includes the side panel, the condition of which is classified as “new” or “good used”.

Unfortunately, other parts are completely missing, such as the trunk lid trim, the glove compartment trim, the handbrake assembly, and the crankshaft and pistons of the 283 V8 engine.

Some parts need to be overhauled, including all gauges, speedometer, tachometer and radio as well as the correct 1957 dual quad carburettors.

The Donner frame is in “good” condition, but the hardtop and softtop need restoration. The car has a three-speed manual transmission from 1957, although the ad gives no indication of its current condition.

Inside, the red seat covers are described as “usable,” but the lower seat springs are defective.

With only 13 of these ’57s currently on the market at Classic Auto Trader and their owners asking $75,000 to $125,000 or more, there seems to be plenty of scope to restore this car without breaking the bank. Are you ready to pull the weight and hoist this vintage Corvette – one of only 6,339 built that year – onto your shoulders?
