Cougars achieve season best in non-section win

Charleroi achieved its season-best result in a non-group game at the Mon Valley Country Club on Wednesday, winning 195-225 against the guests from Jefferson-Morgan.

Levi Large won the medal for the Cougars (4-1) with a 1-over 37. Gage Patterson, Jake Corrin and Jackson Keranko all shot 39. Kaden Woods finished with 41. Josh Chambers’ 43 shots were not used.

Urijah Teasdale was the worst player for the Rockets (3-3) with a 2-over 38. Brayden Ellsworth finished with a 49, Clay Wilson finished with 43 and Brendan Wood shot 44. Dayten Marion and Jack Shaffer both shot 51.

Burgettstown 221, Bentworth 227 – Burgettstown had a small lead after the first group finish and the Blue Devils defended their narrow lead and picked up an away win over non-sectional team Bentworth at Chippewa Golf Course.

Ross Skerbetz was the worst player for the Bearcats (0-6) with 43. Blake Reed shot 45. Trent Wolpink and Sam Wade both finished with 46. Craig McDonald finished with 47.

Matt Bredel led Burgettstown (1-4) with 41.

Girls tennis

Mount Pleasant 5, McGuffey 0 – The Lady Vikings achieved a non-group home victory against the visiting McGuffey.

Bella Fullman (10-0), Ryleigh Drzal (10-0) and Ella Alakson (10-2) lost only two games together in the pro set format.

Dani Trainer and Kiersten O’Conner won their No. 1 doubles match 10-1. Chloe Zelmore and Hannah Shawley completed the shutout with a 10-2 win in No. 2 doubles.

Girls Golf

Franklin Regional 201, Connellsville 246 – The visiting Lady Falcons had a tough round at Murrysville Golf Club and returned home with a Section 3-AAA loss to the Lady Panthers.

Katie Atz was the top golfer for Connellsville (1-4, 1-5) with a 51. Rylee Leasher shot 59. Abigail Humbert finished with a 66 and Isabella Nussbaumer finished with a 70.

Mia Snyder (45), Athena Neuschwander (46) and Carly Tragresser (49) all scored less than 50 for Franklin Regional. Kara Petrazzi finished with 67 points.

Ligonier Valley 218, Mount Pleasant 220 – Ligonier Valley delivered a solid performance at home at Ligonier Country Club, picking up a Section 1-AA win over the visiting Lady Vikings.

Morgan Miller shared the medal for Mount Pleasant (3-1, 3-1) with 49 points. Brynlee Baluh (61), Kaylie Korpiel (53) and Victoria Tepper (57) finished the scoring. Ally Christner’s 62 points were not used.

Addy Witcoski achieved a co-medal round of 49 points (3-0, 4-0) for Ligonier Valley. Ana Charlebois (54), Maggie Markosky (63) and Sierra Nichols (52) were also responsible for the final result.
