Court documents: Mamta Bhatt’s husband accused of murdering her and dragged body out of house

Criminal complaint documents obtained by FOX 5 reveal gruesome details: Naresh Bhatt is accused of murdering his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a presumed dead mother from Virginia, and dragging her body from their Manassas Park home.

FOX 5’s Stephanie Ramirez was in court Friday when Naresh, 37, made his first in-person appearance with a court-appointed translator to face a single charge related to his wife’s disappearance. Prosecutors accuse him of murdering 28-year-old Mamta, who has been missing for several weeks. But since her body has not been found, he is currently facing charges of concealing a corpse. The judge denied Naresh’s release Friday and he remains incarcerated. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 24.

Disturbing details suggest that Mamta Bhatt was killed and then dragged out of her home

According to Ramirez, court documents showed that investigators executed a search warrant at Bhatt’s home this week and spent a significant amount of time there. According to the documents, digital and forensic evidence collected during the investigation suggests that Mamta’s body was inside the home and was likely dragged out. The documents also suggest that the murder occurred on or around July 30.

Using BlueStar technology, investigators discovered what was believed to be blood pools and blood splatters. The documents state that upon entering the home’s master bedroom, they found that the bed had been pushed forward, blocking access to a closet. After moving the bed, investigators noticed a light pink stain on the carpet that was believed to be blood and noticed what appeared to be blood leading to the master bedroom bathroom.

Further investigation using BlueStar Technology included illuminating the entire bathroom floor. Investigators removed the bathtub and visually confirmed what they believed to be blood trapped in the caulk.

Prosecutors claim Naresh Bhatt made contradictory statements

Ramirez said prosecutors accuse Naresh of making several contradictory statements about his wife’s whereabouts during his questioning.

Prosecutors disclosed that Mamta, who has been married to Naresh for just over three years, has an 11-month-old daughter. She works as a pediatric nurse at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center, typically two days a week. On August 1 and 2, she did not show up for work or report in, prompting the hospital to request a police welfare check. At the time, Naresh refused to report his wife missing, claiming she was visiting family in Texas or New York. Prosecutors noted, however, that Mamta had no family in those states, as they all lived in Nepal.

On August 6, investigators said, Naresh Bhatt contacted police to report his wife missing. He said she was visiting her family and was last seen in the early hours of July 31. He later changed his statement and said he last saw her in the early hours of August 1.

Mamta’s phone continued to receive data until July 29, after which all calls went to voicemail. By August 1, the phone was completely dead, according to investigators. The last known location of her phone was in Loudoun County, Virginia. Naresh claimed he was at a coffee shop in Loudoun County and provided evidence that matched the last area where Mamta’s phone pinged a cell tower.

Prosecutors said Naresh visited a Walmart in Chantilly on July 30 to purchase three knives, but only one of them was found during a search of his home. Surveillance footage from the Walmart also allegedly shows Naresh purchasing various cleaning supplies on July 31.

While executing the search warrant, investigators found the house in disarray. Prosecutors revealed that Naresh had sold his Tesla two days earlier. They also noted that the house appeared cluttered. A suitcase and passports belonging to Bhatt and his daughter were visible. In addition, police spoke to two people who claimed he had discussed selling his house.

Authorities confirmed that the couple’s daughter, Neema, is safe and is currently in the care of a person approved by the social services department.

Mamta Bhatt’s former colleague is in shock after disturbing details come to light

Mamta’s former colleague spoke to the media on Friday and admitted that she was shocked after disturbing details emerged during the investigation into the disappearance.

“The details that came to light were far more gruesome than I could have expected,” Wirth said. “Whatever happened in that house reached a high level of brutality, and it saddens me to think that Mamta suffered so much in her final, apparently final, moments.”

Wirth said Mamta’s mother had been granted an emergency visa and efforts were being made to bring her to the United States as soon as possible.

“I think we can all agree that Mamta is one of the nicest people. She has a very kind and gentle nature and always positive energy,” Wirth said. “Anyone who has met her will tell you that she is generally a sweet and kind, loving, devoted mother and unfortunately, a devoted wife as well.”
