CLEVELAND — The direct deposit hadn’t yet hit Dak Prescott’s bank account Sunday before he was already scoring touchdowns throwing dimes on the day he once again benefited from playing the most important position in professional sports on the most valuable team in the world.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension. The average annual value of $60 million is the highest in NFL history. He is guaranteed $231 million – $1 million more than the previous record for guaranteed money, which was received by his opponent on Sunday, Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns.

And on Dallas’ second drive of the game, with the team trailing 3-0 in the first quarter, Prescott showed why Jerry Jones had invested so much in him by making a pinpoint pass down the right sideline to his favorite target, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. With his team close to a score, Prescott held on as long as he could while facing a blitz and threw another perfectly executed pass across the Browns’ secondary to Brandin Cooks, who scored his first touchdown.

From there, the Cowboys cruised to a clear 33-17 victory over a Browns team that struggled to move the ball in any significant way.

Prescott and the Cowboys offense weren’t at full speed all afternoon. In the entire third quarter, when the Cowboys only ran 12 plays, Prescott was 2 of 6 passing for 5 yards.

But that was more than OK on this day. Prescott completed 19 of 32 with 179 passing yards and the touchdown to Cooks.
