CPK signs contract to design the new airport’s Airline Operations Control Center

CPK has signed a contract for the design of the Airline Operations Control Centre. The contractor has one year to complete the full design, including applying for a building permit. This is the third contract for the design of airport support facilities, following the contracts for the Air Traffic Control Tower and the Emergency and Fire Services Infrastructure.

The Airline Operations Control Centre (AOCC) is a central point for managing and coordinating flight operations. It monitors and processes data related to flight planning, apron traffic, crew management, ground handling activities and weather conditions.

“The planning work is progressing rapidly. The operations centre is a crucial part of the airport,” says Dr. Maciej Lasek, Government Commissioner for CPK.

CPK has signed a contract worth approximately PLN 4.7 million net with a consortium of companies including PIG Architekci and GMT. The contract covers the preparation of multidisciplinary design documentation, which includes conceptual, structural, technical and detailed designs, as well as other documents required for project approval.

“This contract is another important step in the design process of the new airport. The Operations Center staff are responsible for decisions regarding daily airport operations under all possible conditions. We are designing and building the AOCC to ensure that operations run as planned,” says Dr. Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK.

The Operations Centre is the third project commissioned under one of the framework contracts for the design of airport support facilities (Support Infrastructure Engineering – SIE) that CPK signed in 2023 with 13 companies and consortia selected through a tender process. The air traffic control tower is currently in the advanced design phase and is the result of a contract for PLN 15.5 million net that CPK signed with JSK Architekci.

At the same time, work is underway on the design of the emergency call and fire service buildings. This task is being carried out for CPK by a consortium of companies: AKE Studio, APA and Tequm. The contract value is PLN 6.6 million net.

Later this year, CPK plans to award a fourth design contract under the Support Facilities Framework Agreement, as the company has announced another tender from this pool. The contract includes design work and technical advice for maintenance bases that will serve three main purposes: first, for airport snow removal services (including storage of winter equipment and chemicals); second, for vehicle maintenance services (including storage of transport and construction machinery); and third, for a service center to carry out technical maintenance of the equipment. The deadline for submitting bids is September 20 this year.

The Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) is a strategic investment aimed at creating a modern national transport system that efficiently integrates air, rail and road transport. The CPK programme will see the construction of a new state-of-the-art central airport between Warsaw and Lodz, as well as a high-speed rail network. The new airport is expected to handle 34 million passengers annually in the first years of operation, with flexible expansion planned in the long term in line with market needs and growth forecasts.
