LINEUPS: The Seattle Sounders made only one major change from last week’s loss to the Portland Timbers, with Reed Baker-Whiting replacing Nouhou in the lineup. Andrew Thomas also replaces Stefan Frei, who is in concussion protocol

The Columbus Crew rarely loses at home. In fact, in their last 42 games in all competitions – during the entire Wilfred Nancy era – they have suffered only two losses at Lower.com Field.

Of course, rarely are so many top players missing as in today’s game against the Seattle Sounders.

Of the Crew’s eight missing players, five were likely starters — including an MLS MVP contender — and another was their most effective player off the bench. They’re also without their top three goalies. The Sounders aren’t exactly at their best — they’re missing four likely starters — but it still feels like they have at least a chance to get a point.

Perhaps in the Sounders’ favor is that they have had quite a bit of success in Columbus, where they have a 5-3-1 record over the years, including a win in their only other away game at Lower.com Field, a 2-1 victory in 2021 that included two late goals to secure the win.

• The Crew are the reigning champions of the Leagues Cup and the MLS Cup. They also reached the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup earlier this year.
• Albert Rusnák has 12 assists in the MLS regular season, four shy of Nicolás Lodeiro’s club record of 16.
• Jordan Morris has scored 10 goals in the MLS regular season and 14 in all competitions. He has already set his career high for goals in all competitions this season and is just two goals away from his personal regular season record.
