Crosslake Town Council hears from residents about short-term rentals – Pine and Lakes Echo Journal

CROSSLAKE – The Crosslake City Council held a public hearing on Monday, August 12, to accept comments on the city’s draft ordinance regarding short-term rentals.

The council had originally planned to vote on the ordinance after the public hearing, but the council had not yet received a response from the city’s attorney on the key legal details of the ordinance.

A further public hearing will be held before the Council votes on the adoption of the Regulation. A date for this hearing has not yet been set.

The council heard the views of about half a dozen local residents, both owners of short-term rentals and those who live next to rental properties.

Topics discussed included licensing fees, complaints, parking restrictions, sewage systems, garbage disposal and property management.

Crosslake Mayor Dave Nevin expressed hope that the city’s management of licenses and regulations will help resolve past rental property problems residents have had.

“Hopefully the city will keep a closer eye on this than the county has in the past. That’s why we’re doing it here,” Nevin said. “We’re trying to implement this locally because we’re going to try to respond to these (complaints). This is going to be a work in progress.”

Starting January 1, 2025, short-term rental properties in Crosslake will be required to have a license from the city.

Recordings of Crosslake City Council meetings can be found on the city’s YouTube channel.
