Crowds gather for fire station’s “fantastic” open day

An emergency service held an open day to raise money for an important charity.

Swanage Fire Station on Kings Road held its open day on Saturday 10th August. The six-hour event featured a variety of activities including live fire and rescue demonstrations, a teddy bear zipline, tombola, raffle, barbecue and much more.

Proceeds from the day were donated to the Firefighters Charity, which supports the mental, physical and social needs of all serving and retired members of the UK fire service.

Additional emergency services were also on site that day to support the event.

A DWFire spokesman said: “What a fantastic open day we had today, raising a lot of money for the Firefighters Charity.

“Thank you to everyone who came along and visited us, I hope you all enjoyed it. Thank you also to the police, Swanage Coastguard and Ambulance Service who also came out to support us on the day. Thank you to the rescue crew who attended some of our displays.

“Thank you to all the helpers today, the day would not have been possible without you, especially with the station display. Unfortunately there are too many to list here but thank you to all the local shops who donated raffle and auction prizes.”

“This enabled us to raise a lot of money for the fire service charity. Finally, thanks go to all the firefighters who organised and took part today.”
