Cult Gaia’s new store radiates the dreamy aura of the ocean

The fashion brand Cult Gaia has opened a new store in Palisades Village in Los Angeles.

Founder and designer Jasmin Hekmat brought the 110 square meter boutique to life in collaboration with New York company Sugarhouse.

Given the store’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Sugarhouse incorporated both literal and subtle references to the sea. For example, plaster walls and floors – made of pastelone with terracotta granules – were finished using a technique that echoes the grainy composition, texture and color of sand, wrapping the space in a palette of pale cream and golden beige.

Soft edges can be found everywhere, as can be seen in the boutique’s interior contours, the undulating sofa and clothes rails, and the furnishings reminiscent of rock formations.

Metallic finishes, such as the front door’s shell handle made from a chrome mold and custom-made mirrors with a glossy plaster finish, reflect and refract light around the space. The store has a shimmering, dreamlike quality that echoes the effect of the seabed.

The opening marks Cult Gaia’s sixth brick-and-mortar location; there are currently stores in the Hamptons, West Hollywood, New York, Miami and St. Barts.
