Current ranking of the Saints in the latest USA Today NFL Power Rankings

The New Orleans Saints have continued to rise in the USA Today Power Rankings, spurred by their “fresh approach” to football. They jumped from 24th in the Power Rankings last week to No. 6, joining some of the league’s strongest competitors in two weeks.

That improvement was reflected in many media outlets, as their 44-19 win over the Dallas Cowboys really shook many people’s opinion of the organization. Here’s what USA Today’s Nate Davis had to say after the landscape-changing Week 2 win over the Saints:

“They destroyed a bad team in Week 1 and then a decent one on Sunday. New OC Klint Kubiak’s system has certainly appealed to QB Derek Carr (league-best 5 TD passes and 142.4 passer rating while leading the team in points in his first 15 drives of the season) and RB Alvin Kamara (league-best 5 TDs and 290 yards from the line of scrimmage). Amazing how seemingly flagging veterans can be revitalized by a fresh approach.”

Davis had high praise for new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and for good reason, as many fans saw him as the immediate reason for the team’s turnaround. Statistically, this is one of the Saints’ best two-week offensive teams ever, and that’s backed up by a whopping 91 points in just two games so far.

However, the Saints are ranked second among NFC South teams as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rose from 11th to 4th. The Atlanta Falcons also rose with their Week 2 win, moving from 19th to 13th. The Carolina Panthers ended up falling from 31st to 32nd after starting the season 0-2 and benching Bryce Young.

Overall, it was a strong week for the Saints on the field, in the power rankings and in the eyes of fans and media.
