Dak Prescott: My motivation is to keep my part of the deal

Dak Prescott finally got his contract just hours before the season opener. He signed a four-year, $240 million deal with $231 million guaranteed. He will earn more than $400 million in his career until the contract expires in 2028.

The question is whether he will win at least one Super Bowl title during this time.

Despite his great success with the Cowboys, Prescott is only 2-5 in the postseason and has never made it past the divisional round with the Cowboys.

That is my only motivation,” Prescott said of the Super Bowl, via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “Holding up my end of the bargain. Just delivering. That’s my motivation. Right now, it’s about celebrating this win tonight. A hell of a win with these guys, I’m excited to fly back with them, but tomorrow I can turn the page, go to the Saints and take it one game at a time. That’s the most important thing to me. Not the money. It’s about holding up my end of the bargain. And that’s what I want to do here.”

Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys and Texas Stadium for $140 million in 1989. In his first seven seasons as owner, his team won three championships, but has not made it to the NFC Championship Game since.

Now that he is the highest-paid player in NFL history with an average annual salary of $60 million, Prescott is apparently under even more pressure.

“I put the most pressure on myself,” Prescott said. “It’s as simple as that. I’m not happy with my … performance today, and that motivates me. That drives me. You try – and I say try – you try to be disappointed in the locker room about it, but you know it’s a road win that’s good for the team, and then your teammates tell you it was a damn good day for you.”

“I put the most pressure on myself. Nobody is a bigger critic than myself, and I expect great things from myself with my standards, my expectations, and the same goes for this team. So there’s no added pressure.”
