Dallas Cowboys vs. Baltimore Ravens: The good, the bad and the ugly from Week 3

Dallas Cowboys vs. Baltimore Ravens: The good, the bad and the ugly from Week 3

Thanks to a late fourth quarter comeback, the Dallas Cowboys avoided another embarrassing loss two weeks in a row. They fought back into the game and scored three late fourth quarter touchdowns, but then lost to the Baltimore Ravens 28-25 in their Week 3 game.

For most of the game, the Cowboys looked out of sync and lethargic on both offense and defense. Although they showed some liveliness on offense toward the end of the game, they still looked undisciplined and outmatched on defense. If we learned anything, though, it’s that there’s still plenty of room for improvement in every aspect.

Today we’re going to look at the good and bad that can be taken from this week 3 game against the Ravens. Unfortunately, the bad and the ugly dominated this week, just like last week against the New Orleans Saints.

THE GOOD – Brandon Aubrey

It’s starting to sound like a broken record, but Brandon Aubrey is without a doubt the only consistently good player we can take away from the Cowboys’ game against the Ravens in Week 3. He made two more kicks of over 50 yards (65, 51) and also helped convert an onside kick that helped the Cowboys fight their way back into the game. While we all love to see him regularly hit the goal posts from virtually any distance, we can all agree that we’d probably prefer to see him kick more extra points after touchdowns.

THE BAD – Dak Prescott and Company after three quarters

The Cowboys offense, led by Dak Prescott, couldn’t get anything going on the ground or in the air for the first three quarters of the game, but finally showed signs of life in the fourth quarter. It was almost as if the switch finally flipped for the Cowboys offense in the fourth quarter. They played with an energy we haven’t seen from them this year and fought their way back into the game after scoring three quick touchdowns. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, but something they can hopefully build on.

THE UGLY – Defense. Defense. Defense.

The Cowboys’ defense was once again their Achilles heel in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore’s offense managed 456 total yards, including 238 yards on the ground from QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry. We knew going into this matchup that this QB/RB pairing would be a problem for the Cowboys’ run defense, and that was the case. Unfortunately, it’s hard to imagine Dallas’ run defense improving much in the future unless some significant personnel changes are made.
