The safety concerns that prompted Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell to sell his Oakland County home this week have not changed his opinion of the team’s fan base overall.

“I love our fans,” Campbell said in his weekly press conference Friday at Allen Park. “The fans are incredible. This city – there’s no place I want to be and no other team I want to coach for. It’s rare to have an environment like ours and be able to coach and play here. And that’s what I always tell our guys: ‘This is a rare place and you should enjoy it because not every place has it like we do.'”

Campbell told Crain’s Detroit Business this week that he and his wife, Holly, put their 7,800-square-foot Cape Cod-style mansion up for sale after being heckled by fans following tough losses in the 2023 season that ended in the NFC championship game.

Fox Sports reported last December that someone sent a work crew to Campbell’s home in Bloomfield Township the morning after the team’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Campbell told Crain’s that he “loved” the house and the neighborhood, “it was just that when we lost, people found out where we lived.”

The house, built and previously owned by former Detroit Red Wings center Igor Larionov, is already pending a sale, and the Campbells have found a new home in Oakland County, according to Crain’s.

On Friday, Campbell declined to provide details about the dangers he faced as coach of the Lions.

“No offense, I don’t want to interfere,” he said. “It’s all good and I have a job to do. My main job here is to coach this team and prepare them every week and I have to do my job. That’s my only focus.”

Campbell is in his fourth season as head coach of the Lions with a record of 25-27-1 and signed a contract extension in March.
