“Dancing with the Stars” pro Witney Carson returns for season 33

In the 2018/19 season, a mirrorball champion returns to the ballroom on “Dancing with the Stars.”

On Thursday, it was announced on “Good Morning America” that Witney Carson will return as a professional dancer for the 33rd season.

“Hi, guys, it’s Whitney Carson. I’m so excited to announce that I’m returning to ‘Dancing with the Stars’ for season 33,” she said in a video message on GMA. “Just wait until you hear who my partner is. He’s going to blow your mind. We are so ready to get the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.”

Carson first competed in the 18th season of “Dancing with the Stars” with her celebrity partner, singer Cody Simpson.

She returned to the show for season 19 and was paired with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who is now a co-host on the reality competition series. The duo won the competition that season.

The dancer continued to train stars of the show during seasons 20 through 28 with partners such as “Bachelor” alum Chris Soules, “Big Time Rush” star Carlos PenaVega, football player Von Miller, rapper Vanilla Ice, comedian Chris Kattan, “Malcolm in the Middle” actor Frankie Muniz, Olympic luger Chris Mazdzer, “Zombies” actor Milo Manheim and Nickelodeon star Kel Mitchell.

In July 2020, Carson announced that she was expecting her first child with her husband Carson McAllister.

Her son Leo was born in January 2021, and later that year, Carson returned to the show as a professional dancer for season 30 alongside her celebrity partner, WWE wrestler Mike “The Miz” Mizanin.

Season 31 was the last season in which she competed in ballroom dancing, alongside television star Wayne Brady.

In August 2023, Carson announced that she would not return for season 32, as she had given birth to her second child, a son named Jet, in May and said she wanted to focus on family.

The full cast for season 33 has not yet been announced, but fans of the show learned last week that Olympic medalist Stephen Nedoroscik will be the first contestant to join the cast this season.

Ribeiro and Julianne Hough will return as co-hosts this season, and Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Derek Hough will return as judges.

The cast of “Dancing with the Stars” for season 33 will be announced exclusively on “GMA” on September 4.

Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars premieres Tuesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, with episodes available to stream on Hulu the following day.

Disney, the parent company of ABC News and Good Morning America, is the majority owner of Hulu.
