Dani Carvajal: “I’m in the running for the Ballon d’Or… why not?”

Real Madrid vice-captain Dani Carvajal was brought before the media ahead of the first UEFA Champions League match of the season against German club VfB Stuttgart. In the press conference, he was asked if last season was the best of his career, to which he replied: “In terms of statistics and titles, yes. Almost unbeatable. To see myself in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or… why not? I dream about it. But just being there is an honour.”

Carvajal on the importance of the first game

“The first games are always decisive and with this format and the home games we know what the Champions League means for this club. We give everything from the first minute.”

Carvajal: The fans need patience

“It’s good news that the team is not at its limit yet. Injuries are also affecting the rest. Tomorrow is another chance. We have to play a good game and make sure the fans go home satisfied.”

Carvajal on Vinícius’ celebration against Real Sociedad

“We see and hear insults against him. When they attack you, you bleed. And it is normal for him to react with certain gestures.”

Carvajal on winning his seventh Champions League title

“That would be unbeatable. I still have a few years to achieve that goal. Why not?”

Carvajal on racism against Vinícius

“We all agree on the Vinícius issue and the opinion on any insult to a person of color. The problem is clear. Stricter protocols are needed.”

Carvajal on contract negotiations

“My idea is to stay as long as possible, but to remain realistic. If I feel that my level is no longer sufficient, I will resign. Provided, of course, that the club wants to continue to use my services.”

Carvajal on the question of whether he would accept a one-year contract extension

It is up to the club to plan the squad. The requirements for players over a certain age have to be renewed every year and I have no problem with that as long as my requirements are still good.

Carvajal on Real Madrid’s home form

“The statistics speak for themselves. Last year we played against all of Germany and tomorrow we will play against a different opponent.”

Carvajal on Mbappé’s home debut in the Champions League

“It will be nice for him, of course. He will feel the magic, the special something that makes these nights special.”

Carvajal about Stuttgart

“They are a young, brave team that likes to have the ball. We have to be patient and not fall into their traps.”

Carvajal on playing as a centre-back

“I have no problem. As long as the coach needs my services, I will be there.”

Carvajal on Bellingham’s return

“This is fantastic news because he brings us a lot both in terms of football and non-sporting. We are counting on him.”
