There goes my hero.

Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has revealed that he fathered a child out of wedlock. In an Instagram post on September 10, Grohl wrote: “I recently became a father to a baby girl born outside of my marriage.”

He further explained that the extramarital affair and the child have not shaken his bond with his wife, Jordyn Blum, and their three daughters. “I love my wife and my children and am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.” He also hinted that he will also be a driving force in his new daughter’s life: “I plan to be a loving and supportive father to her.”

Representatives for Grohl had nothing to add when asked for comment Weekly entertainment.

The post was a rare one from Grohl, whose social media presence is limited to Instagram. This account was only opened in 2020 and contains a total of 22 posts, 20 of which relate to the memoir The Storyteller Grohl was released in 2023. He frequently appears in photos posted on the Foo Fighters Instagram account.

Grohl’s wife of over 20 years, Jordyn Blum, is a former model and MTV producer. Blum stays even more out of the spotlight than Grohl, but has appeared on several Foo Fighters projects, including appearing in the music video for the 2011 song “White Limo” and co-directing the music video for the 2002 song “Walking a Line.”

Grohl has previously publicly referred to his wife as an inspiration for several Foo Fighters songs, although not always positively. In an interview with The AV ClubGrohl cited the 2002 song “Burn Away” as one that makes him “cringe” today, explaining, “I was in love with my future wife and I had a fucking romantic ballad for prom. Ugh! We would never play that fucking shit live.”

Grohl and Blum have three children together: Violet Maye (born 2006), Harper Willow (born 2009) and Ophelia Saint (born 2014). Violet, now 18, is a musician herself and occasionally joins her father on stage at Foo Fighters performances, such as their performance at Glastonbury 2023.

Grohl has recently been in a very public feud with two of the most famous people in the world – Taylor Swift and Donald Trump. He drew the ire of Swifties when he suggested during a concert in June that her band Eras Tour was not performing live. Trump and the Foo Fighters, meanwhile, are at loggerheads over whether the former president’s campaign had permission to use the song “My Hero” at a recent rally.

Neither Blum nor Grohl’s bandmates Nate Mendel, Rami Jaffee, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Josh Freese have commented on Grohl’s affair and his new daughter.
